Jacob Bass is a young American conductor whose approach to music is founded on careful and detailed study of scores, emotional intensity in performances, and respect for colleagues, audiences, and composers.
Starting in the 2025/26 season, Jacob will be Head of Music and Second Kapellmeister of the Mittelsächsisches Theater. In his first season, he will conduct Hänsel und Gretel, Die Lustige Witwe, 3 Musketiere, and an operetta gala.
Jacob worked previously as a repetiteur and assistant conductor at Theater Regensburg, where he conducted family concerts and Sondheim’s Putting It Together, and in the same position at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, where he conducted the concert series Tanztee and world premieres by winners of the “Neue Bahnen” competition.
Jacob studied conducting at Mannes College of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna; in the summers of 2021 and 2022 he attended the Aspen Music Festival as a conducting fellow and returned in 2023 as assistant conductor. During his studies in Vienna he worked as a repetiteur at Theater an der Wien and the Vienna State Opera.

Jacob Bass ist ein junger US-amerikanischer Dirigent, dessen Zugang zur Musik auf sorgfältigem und detailliertem Partiturstudium, auf emotionaler Intensität in der Darbietung und auf Respekt gegenüber Kolleg*innen, Publikum und Komponist*innen gründet.
Ab der Spielzeit 2025/26 wird Jacob als Studienleiter und 2. Kapellmeister am Mittelsächsischen Theater tätig sein. Dort wird er Hänsel und Gretel, Die Lustige Witwe, 3 Musketiere sowie eine Operettengala dirigieren.
Zuvor arbeitete Jacob als Solorepetitor mit Dirigierverpflichtung am Theater Regensburg, wo er Familienkonzerte und Sondheims Putting It Together dirigierte, sowie in derselben Position am Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, wo er die Konzertreihe Tanztee sowie Uraufführungen von der Preisträger des »Neue Bahnen« Kompositionswettbewerbs leitete.
Jacob studierte Dirigieren am Mannes College of Music und an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. In den Sommern 2021 und 2022 nahm er als Dirigier-Stipendiat am Aspen Music Festival teil und kehrte 2023 als Assistant Conductor dorthin zurück. Während seines Studiums in Wien arbeitete er als Repetitor am Theater an der Wien und an der Wiener Staatsoper.
