American conductor Jacob Bass is a prizewinner of the Opéra de Baugé and Estoril international conducting competitions and currently serves as Head of Music and Second Kapellmeister at the Mittelsächsisches Theater in Germany. In his first season (2025/26), he conducted Die Lustige Witwe, the musical 3 Musketiere, and the operetta gala Schön ist die Welt; in the 2026/27 season he will lead performances of Hänsel und Gretel and Das Land des Lächelns as well as a production of the musical Bonnie & Clyde.
Jacob worked previously as a repetiteur and assistant conductor at Theater Regensburg, where he conducted family concerts and Sondheim’s Putting It Together, and in the same position at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, where he conducted the concert series Tanztee and world premieres by winners of the “Neue Bahnen” competition.
Jacob studied conducting at Mannes College of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna; in the summers of 2021 and 2022 he attended the Aspen Music Festival as a conducting fellow and returned in 2023 as assistant conductor. During his studies in Vienna he worked as a repetiteur at Theater an der Wien and the Vienna State Opera.

Der amerikanische Dirigent Jacob Bass ist Preisträger internationaler Dirigierwettbewerbe der Opéra de Baugé und von Estoril. Seit der Spielzeit 2025/26 ist er Studienleiter und 2. Kapellmeister am Mittelsächsischen Theater, wo er bereits in seiner ersten Spielzeit Die lustige Witwe, das Musical 3 Musketiere sowie die Operettengala Schön ist die Welt dirigierte. In der Spielzeit 2026/27 wird er Hänsel und Gretel und Das Land des Lächelns dirigieren sowie die musikalische Leitung des Musicals Bonnie & Clyde übernehmen.
Zuvor war Jacob als Solorepetitor mit Dirigierverpflichtung am Theater Regensburg tätig, wo er Familienkonzerte und Sondheims Putting It Together dirigierte. In gleicher Position arbeitete er am Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, wo er die Konzertreihe Tanztee sowie Uraufführungen von Preisträgern des Wettbewerbs „Neue Bahnen“ dirigierte.
Jacob studierte Dirigieren am Mannes College of Music und an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. In den Sommern 2021 und 2022 nahm er als Dirigier-Stipendiat am Aspen Music Festival teil und kehrte 2023 als Assistant Conductor zurück. Während seines Studiums in Wien arbeitete er als Repetitor am Theater an der Wien und an der Wiener Staatsoper.
